View Online IMMEDIATE RELEASE Statement by Chief Pentagon Spokesman, Sean Parnell, on Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth Travel to Belgium and France June 3, 2025 Chief Pentagon Spokesman Mr. Sean Parnell provided the following statement:   Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth will depart early this week for a trip to participate in the NATO defense ministerial in Brussels, Belgium, on June 5, and D-Day commemorations in Normandy, France, on June 6. The Secretary will deliver a message at the defense ministerial focused on advancing President Trump's call for NATO allies to commit to spend 5% of their GDP on defense and refocusing NATO on collective defense and deterrence.  At the D-day commemorations, the Secretary will participate in events to commemorate the sacrifices of the valiant patriots who fought to secure freedom in Europe and around the world.
