Week in Review 11 October 2025
Catch up on this week's must-read stories as UN Headquarters hosted world leaders for UNGA80

We covered the momentous events of Thursday live, and kept following every development in the humanitarian crisis, as we have done since the Hamas terror attacks of October 2023, and the devastating Israeli offensive that followed.

As a fragile peace in and around Gaza took hold, we continued to report on the horrors in Haiti – where the US has also galvanised action through the Security Council-endorsed new force to tackle armed gangs there – Sudan, where besieged El Fasher continues to hold out, and Ukraine.

The UN celebrated the Nobel Peace Prize winner Maria Machado of Venezuela, a Nigerian woman prison officer whose motto is 'peace begins behind bars', the 'cosmic girls' who want to conquer Outer Space – and the millions of girls represented by their peers at UN Headquarters on Friday, who are bold, diverse and unstoppable. Read on, and have a great weekend. We'll be back next Saturday.

Stay informed – follow UN News online, on our app, and on social media for the latest updates in New York, Geneva, Nairobi and around the world.
