Florida Guard Supports Hurricane Debby Response
Aug. 6, 2024 | By Defense.gov

Florida National Guardsmen are assisting residents of the state affected by Hurricane Debby.

In north-central Florida's Suwannee County, soldiers assigned to the Guard's 868th Engineer Company conducted high-water rescue operations today to help residents to safety after flooding from the storm.

Florida's governor ordered National Guard soldiers and airmen to prepare to respond to Debby on Aug. 1; more than 3,000 were activated."You can't wait until the storm hits to call up the Guard, so we get our people in uniform and into position ahead of time," Army Col. Jeremey Davis, commander of the 50th Regional Support Group, said.
