View Online IMMEDIATE RELEASE General Officer Announcement Dec. 12, 2024 Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III announced today that the president has made the following nomination: Army Maj. Gen. Brett G. Sylvia for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general, with assignment as director for Strategy, Plans, and Policy, J-5, Joint Staff; and senior member, U.S. Delegation to the United Nations Military Staff, Pentagon, Washington, D.C.  Sylvia is currently serving as commanding general, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and Fort Campbell, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
