Readout of Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III's Call With Israeli Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant
Sept. 18, 2024

Pentagon Press Secretary Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder provided the following readout:

Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III spoke with Israeli Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant today to review regional security developments and reiterate unwavering U.S. support for Israel in the face of threats from Iran, Lebanese Hizballah, and Iran's other regional partners. The Secretary emphasized the U.S. commitment to deterring regional adversaries and efforts to deescalate tensions across the region. The Secretary reaffirmed the priority of achieving a Gaza ceasefire deal that will bring home hostages held by Hamas, and an enduring diplomatic resolution to the conflict on the Israel-Lebanon border that will allow civilians on both sides to return to their homes.
